Having spent years on the coast, where we converted the lawn to garden beds, gardening in Colorado is an educational experience. Water is turned on to the irrigation in April. Average last freeze is May 15th, our choice of planting date. We built permanent hail hoops for our second year to keep some protection for the biblical hailstorms of June and July. The netting comes down early for beds with tomatoes and peppers and later for beds with more delicate crops of herbs and peas. We have a recurring herb bed now in our fourth year with sage and rosemary wintering over.

- Kale
- Peppers (poblano and anaheim)
- Herbs (basil, parsley, thyme, oregano, marjoram, sage, rosemary and chives)
- Tomatoes (San Marzano romas, black cherry, and yellow plum)
