FORMAL DISC GOLF COURSES IN FORT COLLINS, CO

Most towns have put up a course or two. In Fort Collins we have two 18-hole courses and half a dozen or so on school properties available to the public on the weekends.

Here are my favorites in Fort Collins.

  • Edora is a challenging 18-hole park course and it was greatly improved in 2022.
  • Boltz is a local favorite 9-hole middle-school course.
  • Aggie Greens is a wide open 18-hole course up against the foothills. Nice views. Strong winds.
  • Cache la Poudre is a tiny heavily wooded 9-hole school course.

Other favorites in the area:

  • Sundance is a monster 36-hole mountain course northwest of Fort Collins. Epic!
  • Oxbow is a charming 12-hole wooded course on the Poudre River in Windsor.
  • Ultra is a challenging 18-hole course sadly squeezed between a big brewery and an interstate.

INFORMAL DISC GOLF COURSES IN FORT COLLINS, CO.

These are informal courses with several unique targets. See maps and details below:

  • Rollie Moore Twelve
  • Rossborough Seven

These courses are in public parks where no one is expecting flying discs.. Safety is the priority. While there are no out of bounds areas, you lose a stroke if you scare anyone. Never (ever) throw if you could hit someone. If need be, agree among the players to alter any hole for safety, such as adding a mandatory route or selecting an alternate target.

Rollie Moore Twelve

This informal course in a popular Fort Collins park has no conventional disc golf baskets. The disc must come to rest within one stride of the target, typically a tree, forcing a focus on the accuracy of approach shots. Three holes, 3, 4 and 12, require the disc to pass through an opening (scoreboard, nature sign). The tee is typically a 3-meter line perpendicular to the throwing direction. The person, Rolland Moore, was instrumental in setting aside the waterways around Fort Collins for trails and flood mitigation.

  1. Tee from dirt path between ball fields. Cross the creek to the first deciduous tree in the grass.
  2. Tee from a line perpendicular to the first hole. Cross the creek to a small tree near the field.
  3. Pass through the base of the scorecard on the farther field.
  4. Pass through the base of a small sign without plunging deep into the woods.
  5. Tee next to the nearby evergreen. Avoid the lake and land by the tree next to the bench.
  6. Use the second tee again on this long hole to the deciduous tree between the evergreens.
  7. Tee between two evergreens by the trail for a small three-trunk tree by the creek.
  8. Tee between two evergreens for a small tree by a bench.
  9. Cross the creek and land under the tall light pole (shown below).
  10. Mandatory requires crossing to the left of the creek trees and land by a large cottonwood.
  11. Tee from the cottonwood to the same tree as hole six.
  12. Tee between two evergreens again. Cross the creek and pass under the near scoreboard.

Rossborough Seven

Rossborough Park in Fort Collins is a kilometer south of Rolland Moore Park. Most of the targets are a series of heart rate signs scattered around the park near exercise equipment. Pick which pole to hit as your target. More experienced player can hit at sign height to more closely duplicate a disc golf basket. The tee is typically a 3-meter line from the previous target perpendicular to the throwing direction.

All holes are par 3. Several holes are blind, so always check for foot traffic.

  1. Tee off this low ceiling shot from the curved sidewalk to the Heart Check sign by the road.
  2. Pay attention to safety. Tee from the sign and throw to the next sign near the road.
  3. Tee from the sign and throw through a low ceiling to the poop bag pole.
  4. The elevated tee is above and in line with the stairs. Blind approach to a sign at the bars.
  5. Tee from path in line with the stairs. Stay left of the mandatory trees to the second sign poles.
  6. Tee from sign to the next sign near the corner.
  7. Check for foot traffic on the path first. Tee from sign to the signs near the first tee.

Let’s go throw!
